Forward (A Poem)

She walked along in loneliness
Then she walked away alone
It’s better alone than with someone
That can cut you to the bone

She stood as silence filled the night
Not knowing where to turn
No torch, no light, to guide her path
But the fire within her burned

Step one, step two, I’m moving on
If I stumble, if I fall
I’m moving forward, not staying here
If I have to risk it all

The night progressed, the hours passed
There seemed no end in sight
Unseen forces knocked her down
But that only fueled her fight

The world around her seemed darker still
But the moon was on the rise
And in its ascent, smoothly, softly
It lit the path before her eyes

Step one, step two, I’m moving on
If I stumble, if I fall
I’m moving forward, not staying here
If I have to risk it all
I’m moving on
